Since 1989, Cathy Johnston has been sharing her expertise in canine behavior and psychology to support The Cape & Islands community and their canine companions. American K9 is a business built with a goal to teach appropriate tools and techniques to both dogs and their owners, to create strengthened bonds and help both to live a free, happy and well balanced life together. After choosing and completing one of our programs that fits best for you and your dog, you will leave with all of the necessary tools to have a well rounded pet.

BOARD & TRAIN

Intense training catered to puppies or dogs that need some extra attention. For this program, we work very hard to create the perfect environment for your dog to learn. Often addressing behaviors such as house training, jumping, barking, mouthing, chewing, digging, barking/whining, aggression, general boundaries with people and other dogs and many others.

PRIVATE LESSONS

One-on-one training sessions designed to fit your specific behavioral goals. You can come to us or we also offer in-home sessions in the comfort of your own home. We address training such as teaching your dog to come when called, walking in a nice heeling position, coping with separation anxiety, boundaries, skills to deal with real world distractions, socialization and many more.

GROUP CLASSES

Group training sessions- great for socialization and learning to listen under the pressure of real-world distractions. Always a fun time to meet other people and their pups while you're all on the same journey to well behaved dogs!

Your dog is off the hook! Nothing too serious here- just a fun and safe place for your dog to hang out while their family is at work or headed on a vacation. We offer care just for the day as well as overnight/extended stays.
